Most people are very much
vain with how they look. Along with the proper dress, the
right accessories are the next big things that people are
most concerned about. Watches are one of them. We all know
for a fact that watches are very much a necessity for
everybody, especially for someone who is always on the go.

movements? More often than not, most people mistakenly think

There are basically four known
types of watch movements that one can clearly note with
regards to watches. These four types are mechanical
movements, turning-fork movements, electronic movements and
the radio-controlled movements. But before we further
discuss about the different types of watch movements, let us
first define what a watch movement is. A watch movement is
the mechanism that basically measures the passages of the
time as well as its displays. The presence of the date, the
month and the day are sometimes visible on some watches.
Mechanical Movements- These are the types of watch movements
that are still very popular up to this day, especially on
collectible and expensive watches like Omega, Rolex, Tag
Heuer, and Fortis. They are apparently the best mechanically
engineered movements up to today. Along with this mechanism,
the watches that have this mechanism, like the Rolex watch
movement, are the best as far as craftsmanship is concerned.
Lately though, less emphasis is actually being given to time
precision especially with the birth of highly technical
devices like personal digital assistants or the PDA’s,
laptops, mobile phones and the likes. Because of which,
these mechanically engineered watches are more less valued
for timepieces yet highly worthy to be considered as pieces
of jewelry.
Watches that are mechanically engineered do not really give
exact time, causing some errors with its second hands. They
are very much sensitive to its temperature as well as the
position and not to mention that they are very expensive to
produce. These types of watch movements need regular
adjustments and maintenance, which is prone to much failure.
This is practically the main reason why most people prefer
having the electronically engineered watches because they
are safer to use with its accurate timekeeping.
Electronic Movements- These are the watch movements that has
very few moving parts, while there are some watches that
really do not show any parts that are moving at all.
Piezoelectrice effect is practically what most modern
electronically-engineered watches make use of. Specific
examples of these are the quartz watches. These are
considered the most efficient in giving the precise time of
the day, which explains why they are the most commonly used
types of watches up to today.
Radio-controlled Movements- These types of watch movements
include radio signals that are mostly driven by clocks,
specifically the atomic clocks. Because of the fact that
radio signals are being used with these types, accuracy of
the time is almost a hundred percent precise.
Tuning-Fork Movements- First introduced by one of the
leading watch manufacturers, Bulova, the tuning fork
engineering uses a 360-hertz tuning fork for driving a
certain mechanical watch. Instead of the traditionally used
balance wheels, the watches that have the tuning fork
movements naturally hum than they typical tick.

watch movements, perhaps you will now not have a hard time
in choosing the proper watches for you. Before you buy
